Hurricane Helene & Milton Response
Late September and Early October the Gulf coast was devestated by 2 back to back Hurricanes. Homes were flooded, businesses were destroyed, and life stood still as we were all in disbelief at how much destruction a passing storm could cause. In times like these when our neighbors and friends are trying to pick up the pieces there is no where else I’d rather be than at home helping my community. The Happy Snapper joined forces with the Operation BBQ Relief reponse team. Thanks to all the volunteers who were at the main camp in Pinellas Park cooking 24/7 We were able to distribute 2,000-3,000 meals a day. We served free hot meals in Shore Acres St. Pete South Pasadena, and Treasure Island for a week before we were all preparing for yet another storm. After seeing the destruction from Helene there was no way we were staying for Milton. We packed up the family the trailer and headed out of town. We came back as soon as we could and were back to work serving meals to all of those who needed it. After Milton we provided meals in Punta Gorda, Sarasota, Wimauma, Tampa, Anna Maria, and palmetto. Every one of those communities had suffered loss, flooding, and wind damage, and yet every day people were in good spirits. One of our amazing volunteers had completely lost his home and he was so positive and comforting to everyone else because he was still alive. Stuff is stuff! We met so many wonderful honest people. within the 4 week “deployment” we served about 50,000 hot meals. Family Business
The most important thing to us is Family. One of the perks about owning the food truck is being able to choose our schedule. This has allowed us to be there for sports practice and games, Holidays, and Birthdays. More importantly it is a business every member of the family can help with. We all literally built the bones of the business together and from time to time we are joined by our kids mothers and close friends to help with service. When you eat at The Happy Snapper you also become Family!
Recognized by the City of St. Pete
After only being open for 3 months we were fortunate to be recognized by the city of St. Pete and chosen to be featured for Spanish heritage months new upcoming business! We are proud to be St. Pete locals and live in such a beautiful and welcoming place.
Our Daughter Penelope wanted to give back to the community by helping those in need. She had a wonderful ideal to offer lemonade in exchange for donations. All proceeds from lemonade will be donated to a local homeless shelter.
Although Penelope may not always be available with her lemonade, We will always accept donations for the cause.
When it comes to seafood there is no one I trust more than a local Fishing Capt. Lucky for all our customers we have one on The Happy Snapper Food Truck! Capt. Rafael is the owner of Spanish sardine fishing charter right here in St. Pete. His boat is actually the happy Snapper. Although he is not a commercial fisherman he knows the best places to buy fresh. He has often had his customers come to the food truck after a charter for a hook and cook. If you catch your own fish and bring it to us we can cook it for you too!
